Sweet Oranges (Citrus sinensis) also known in the Chinese language as 柳丁 liu3 ding1, 柳橙 liu3 chen2, 甜橙 tian2 chen2, 黃果 huang2 guo3, 金環 jin1 huan2. Sweet orange is a hybrid between pomelo (Citrus maxima) & mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata), originated from Southeast Asia. 

Labelled as a fruit of healing, sweet orange contains high levels of Vitamin C, Phosphorus, potassium, β-carotene, citric acid, etc. High in fibre & low in calories, sweet oranges with their natural sugars are suitable alternative for meals, sweets & cakes. Dieters with a sweet tooth can eat sweet oranges to tackle their sugar cravings. The high fibre content is helpful for people with constipation & reduces toxins in the body at the same time.

Reminder: Fats, waste & toxins are accumulated due to malfunction of the digestive system. Balancing the acid and alkaline levels in the body can improve the digestion, absorption, metabolic and excretion systems. Thus one should know what foods are acidic, alkaline or neutral.  

Sweet oranges cannot be consumed on an empty stomach or before a meal, as the acids would damage the gastric membrane, detrimental to the stomach. Milk cannot be consumed 1 hour before and after eating oranges as the protein in the milk will solidify with the fruit acids, affecting the digestion and the absorption of the nutrients. 

Weight Loss Plans with Sweet Oranges:

1. Regular Sweet Orange Diet


Start your day with a glass of warm water with a pinch of salt, followed with 1 egg & 1 bowl of rice porridge. 

Lunch: 1 bowl of veggie clear soup, 1 fish, 1 bowl of rice.

Afternoon tea (when necessary): 1 sweet orange or 1 glass of sweet orange juice.

Dinner: 1 plate of vegetables, 1 bowl of rice.  Eat 1 sweet orange 1 hour after dinner. 

This diet can be used on a regular basis for weight loss or weight maintenance. You may choose any vegetable that you prefer but try to avoid oily foods.  Throw in some stretching exercise or cardio workout to ensure a slim silhouette for life!

A reader attempted this diet for two weeks, managed to lost weight & had much brighter skin.

2. Speed Loss Sweet Orange Diet

Breakfast: 1 tomato, 1 cooked egg, 1 glass of fresh fruit juice.

Lunch: 1 bowl of steamed egg, 1 bowl of tomato soup, 1 sweet orange

Afternoon tea: 1 glass of fresh juice

Dinner: 1 tomato, 1 cooked egg, 1 sweet orange

Avoid eating other foods when implementing this diet, but water can be drunk freely. One can have a glass of fresh juice or a salad between each meal.  This diet can only be implemented for 4 days, with a break of 2 weeks before starting again.  In the 2 weeks break, your main foods would include green vegetables and fruits.

3. Sweet Orange Weight Loss Soup


Sweet Orange 1000g, Raw Ginger 50 g, Sandalwood powder 檀香末 25 g, Salt, 20 g, licorice root powder 50 g, 4 bowls of water

Slice the sweet oranges with its skin, the ginger. Boil the orange and ginger in a pot of water until it boils. Add the rest of the ingredients after 30 minutes & the soup is done. 


Drink 1 bowl of soup, three times a day. When consuming this soup, one must maintain a happy mood, exercise more, preferably until the whole body sweats.

A group of 5 ladies tried this diet together; 3 lost 7.5 kg, 1 lost 6 kg and another 4 kg in 2 months.
